Cosmic ray production in superbubbles

چکیده
We compute the production of cosmic rays in dynamical superbubble produced by a cluster massive stars. Stellar winds, supernova remnants and turbulence are found to accelerate particles so efficiently that nonlinear feedback must be taken into account order ensure energy balance is not violated. High do scatter on escape quickly after each explosion, which makes both their intensity inside bubble injection interstellar medium intermittent. On other hand, stochastic acceleration low hardens spectra at GeV energies. Because damp cascade, this hardening less pronounced when nonlinearities account. Nevertheless, with hard components extending up 1 10 normalised an density 100 eV cm$^{-3}$ typical signatures superbubbles. Efficient shock reacceleration within compact clusters further shown produce hard, slightly concave spectra, while presence magnetised shell enhance confinement therefore collective plasma effects acting them. eventually estimate overall contribution superbubbles galactic ray content show gamma-ray expected from hadronic interactions superbuble shells. In cases, qualitative agreement observations obtained.

Time Delays in Cosmic Ray Propagation
Cosmic Rays (CR) travel at speeds essentially indistinguishable from the speed of light. However whilst travelling through magnetic fields, both regular and turbulent, they are delayed behind the light since they are usually charged particles and their paths are not linear. Those delays can be so long that they are an impediment to correctly identifying sources which may be variable in time. Fu...
متن کاملCosmic Ray Acceleration in Superbubbles and the Composition of Cosmic Rays
We review the evidence for cosmic ray acceleration in the superbubble/hot phase of the interstellar medium, and discuss the implications for the composition of cosmic rays and the structure and evolution of the interstellar medium (ISM). We show that the bulk of the galactic supernovae, their expanding remnants, together with their metal-rich grain and gas ejecta, and their cosmic ray accelerat...
متن کاملCosmic Ray particle production
The status of some popular models to simulate hadronic and nuclear interactions at Cosmic Ray energies is reviewed. The models predict the rise of all the hadronic and nuclear cross sections with energy and a smooth (logarithmic) rise of average multiplicities, rapidity plateaus and average transverse momenta with the energy. Big differences are found between model predictions partly already at...
متن کاملMuon Production in Relativistic Cosmic-Ray Interactions
Cosmic-rays with energies up to 3×1020 eV have been observed. The nuclear composition of these cosmic rays is unknown but if the incident nuclei are protons then the corresponding center of mass energy is √ snn = 700 TeV. High energy muons can be used to probe the composition of these incident nuclei. The energy spectra of high-energy (> 1 TeV) cosmic ray induced muons have been measured with d...
متن کاملGamma-Ray Line Emission from Superbubbles
We present an evolutionary model for γ-ray line emission from superbubbles based on shock acceleration of metal-rich stellar ejecta. Application to the Orion OB1 association shows that γ-ray lines at the detection threshold of the SPI spectrometer aboard of INTEGRAL are expected, making this region an interesting target for studies of the interaction of supernova shocks with the interstellar me...
